Education including for children with multi disabilities and visual impairment
SLBWA assists the Ministry of Education in providing integrated education for blind and visually impaired students on a national level. They are being educated in the regular schools, along with their sighted peers supported by itinerant teachers who provide braille, large print and other services necessary. Classroom teachers are also trained in adaptive and accommodative instructions to assist students in the least restrictive environment. The unit also provides a centre based early intervention and therapy for students with multiple disabilities including vision impairment (MDVI). Home based services are available to students with MDVI and are incapable or have extreme difficulty in attending the centre based programme
